Veneers: Plastic Surgery for your Teeth
- Posted on: Dec 30 2018
White, straight teeth can give you the confidence to smile more and feel better when you’re meeting new people. Before you have permanent surgeries that can leave you with regret or results that didn’t give you what you want, learn more about veneers and how they can help enhance your appearance.
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are permanently bonded to a tooth to improve its appearance. Porcelain is perfectly suited to the task, as it looks just like natural teeth. Often, people don’t even notice you’ve had work done when you have veneers.
Also, did you know that veneers are not as permanent as you think? Though they are permanent, they can be adjusted and changed if you do not like the results. For example, if the color is too white, you can come in and have a veneer placed that is more suitable to your entire smile.
First, we need to prepare and plan. Taking an impression of your teeth will help us make the perfect shape and size of the veneer. The veneer is designed to fit on top of your natural tooth and we look at everything to make sure it fits ideally. For example, the color is matched so the tooth doesn’t stand out or look out of place.
We will prepare your tooth for the new veneer while it is being prepared, so you can understand what it will look like when it’s finished. Preparing the tooth requires removal of a small portion of the enamel on your tooth. This gives the veneer space to fit perfectly over the top. Then, a temporary veneer is placed with temporary glue to help protect the tooth and give you an idea of what your results will be. Taking care of the temporary is key while you are waiting for your veneer. Being careful to avoid hard foods and brush gently will help keep your temporary veneer in place.
Once the veneer is ready, we can finish your smile! Your veneer is permanently bonded to your tooth, and you leave the office with more confidence and a more beautiful smile.
